Technical Brief:  CORBA

CORBA is an Object Management Group (OMG) standard for platform and language independent distributed computing.

CORBA is the best way to integrate legacy systems. A customer may have existing applications written in many different languages running on several different platforms. Adding CORBA interfaces to legacy applications allows new applications to be developed which integrate or exchange data with the legacy applications.

This technology uses a vendor independent and mature standard for distributed programming that preserves your technology investment. Other distributed computing standards lock you into a particular operating system, programming language or other vendor specific product.

There are many high quality, open-source, royalty free implementations available with language bindings and tools available for all leading operating systems and programming languages. An excellent source of information is the OMG's CORBA FAQ .

SilkSpeed has used CORBA to connect Microsoft and Unix based systems using a combination of C++ and Java languages and several different Object Request Brokers (ORBs). We can help you integrate legacy systems into your future today!
