Technical Brief:  Middleware

Middleware is software that permits two applications to communicate with one another. It typically offers this extra functionality by offering a common set of simple APIs, thereby hiding the complexity of its provided service(s).

Middleware can exist in many forms; common uses for the Middleware concept include:

  • A software layer to bypass programming language and/or operating system incompatibilities between client and server applications
  • An interface between Web servers and database systems
  • An application to manage both local and remote communications between multiple applications

Software examples of Middleware abound. The CORBA standard describes messaging and Object Request Broker (ORB) services that embody the concept of Middleware. Java's RMI, JNDI and JMS messaging systems are also examples.

SilkSpeed has the experience with these and other technologies to meet your Middleware needs. We have the knowledge and expertise to get your project moving forward towards completion.
